But before you proceed for fetching the details about Aadhar card status, you must initially know the procedure to update Aadhar card.

NOTE: Update facility is unavailable for those who have not registered their mobile number. If you have not registered a Mobile number with your aadhar yet, you are required to do so. For that, you need to visit a Permanent Enrolment Centre to get it registered.

  • Firstly, go to the UIDAI’s website, so as to change Aadhar details.
  • You will witness a separate section of “Aadhaar Update” on the home page itself.
  • In order to update the Address, click on the link Address Update Request (Online).
  • You will be redirected to Aadhar Self Service Update Portal. Click on Proceed (a link given at the end of that page).
  • You will be asked for your Aadhar number. Enter the same.
  • Enter the code in the text verification box same as displayed in the image.
  • Click on the “Send OTP” button.
  • Now you will receive an OTP via SMS on your registered mobile number. Once you receive the OTP enter the same on the screen and submit.
  • Now you will be redirected to another section of the page “data update request”
  • Here you need to select the items which you wish to edit from your present Aadhar details. You can change your NAME, GENDER, DOB, ADDRESS, MOBILE NUMBER, and EMAIL ID here.
  • Now, enter the details that you need to update on the form.
  • You would next be asked to upload the soft/digital copies of the supporting documents for the change/update or correction you made. This is essentially required for the verification purpose.
  • Now, you will be given a URN number, which plays a vital role while checking the update status later. So, please keep the URN number saved with you.

Steps to Check Aadhar Card Status

Once you have applied for the change or update in your details for the aadhar card on the Aadhaar Self Service Update Portal, you need to return to the website to check the status. Follow the given steps below:
  • Firstly you need to open the link to Check Status - Update done Online
  • Then, you have to enter a few details to check the status.
  • Here you will be providing your Aadhar number which is a 12-digit number, clearly visible on the front side of your card.
  • You need to then enter the URN. This number is given to you after you successfully apply for the change online.
  • Then you must enter the SRN number. It is also created while submitting update request online.
  • Finally, you’ll observe a code displayed in the box. This is the security code that you have to enter in the “text verification” box.
  • Click on ‘Get Status’. Hence, your update status would appear on the screen.

Things you should know about Aadhar Card Status Enquiry

Once you have applied for your Aadhaar Card, it usually takes 60 to 90 days to receive the Aadhaar letter via post. With Acknowledgement Slip:

After you submit your Aadhar application form you get an acknowledgement slip that contains an Enrolment ID along with the exact date and timings when your acknowledgement slip generates. You’ll need this 14 digit Enrolment ID here to check your Aadhaar Card status. Also, you also need to know the exact date and time when the slip generated. There will be two sets of 14 digit numbers that you would need to enter on the Check Aadhaar Status page of the UIDAI website.

Without Acknowledgement Slip:

If you have lost your acknowledgement slip, then also you can retrieve the Enrolment ID and Date/Time of Aadhaar enrolment now. All you have to do is open the official website of UIDAI and follow the steps given below.
  1. Once the page gets open, choose the option you wish to retrieve. You can either get your EID number or UID number. If you have enrolled for the first time, choose EID option. If you are already having Aadhar, choose UID option.
  2. Now enter your full name here as mentioned in Aadhaar/ Enrolment ID.
  3. Now either type in your email or your mobile to get the OTP. (Note: The one you enter here should be registered with your Aadhaar)
  4. Now, fill in the Security Code in the box same as you see in the image.
  5. Click on send OTP.
  6. You’ll receive the OTP. Enter the OTP in the Right corner box.
  7. Select verify OTP.
  8. Now you’ll see a pop-up message on screen "You will receive Aadhaar Number (UID) on your Mobile via SMS."
  9. Finally, check your mobile/email to access the Aadhar number for further e-Aadhar download process.

Aadhar card status inquiry using Phone:

You can also enquire about Aadhaar status via SMS. All you need to do is type UID STATUS<space>14-digit enrolment number, or UID STATUS<space>28-digit EID in the message while the composition and send this message to 51969.

Check Aadhar status using Toll-free number:

You can also ping the customer care officials by using the toll-free Aadhaar support number “1947”. This will help you know the status of your Aadhaar Card. But remember to keep your enrolment ID handy while doing this.

Types of Aadhar Update Status

  • Under Review
  • Rejected
  • Successful

Under Review:

If the status indicates “Under Review” then it means your documents are still under process for verification. Once the officials of UIDAI verify all the essential documents as proof of identity, the Aadhar will get a fresh update. Hence its digital copy becomes available on the website.

Rejected:

If the status reads ‘Rejected’, the following reasons could be possible:
  • Documents submitted are inadequate.
  • Incorrect details submitted.
  • Mismatch in the details present in documents to the details entered for aadhar.

Successful:

You have good news if the status displays a text “Successful”. You can download your e-Aadhar card anytime now. Once it gets successful, you don’t have to check aadhar card status again and again now. You can directly opt for Aadhar Download option from where you’ll receive a digital copy of Aadhar card known as E- Aadhar.
